Tara Hewitt
Trainer / Advisor
Tara draws on wide-ranging Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) expertise and human rights advocacy, grounding her practice in evidence while inspiring leaders to act with confidence and empathy.
As the former Interim CEO of Transgender Equality Network Ireland (TENI), she strengthened the organisation’s governance and bolstered relationships with key stakeholders. She also drove national visibility work, and notably joined Senator Annie Hoey in the Dáil to deliver the “Evolving Models of Trans Healthcare: A Possible Future for Ireland?” event, which explored international best practice in healthcare.
Previously, Tara was Associate Director of D&I at one of England’s largest NHS Trusts, where she delivered award-winning initiatives on Inclusive Leadership, tackling bias, and anti-racism. These efforts resulted in 100+% growth in the representation of ethnic minority colleagues in senior positions across the Trust.
Her LGBTQ+ advocacy includes forming the National NHS (UK) Trans staff network of over 200 members and she established the Trans Legal Initiative, which worked with leading solicitors’ firms and barristers’ chambers to educate lawyers and the judiciary on Trans Inclusion and improve access to justice. Her contributions to the community have been appreciated through several awards including such as inclusion in the Independent on Sunday’s ‘Pink List’ and being recognised at the Inclusive Companies Awards.
Tara’s volunteering has seen her serving as a board director and Chairperson for Public Sector bodies and Charities of various sizes, specialising in HR and governance support. Outside of a career dedicated to advancing Equality and Inclusion for all, Tara enjoys golf, badminton, hiking and astronomy, and is a self-proclaimed “spreader of sparkles and giggles.”
